Truth, Beauty and Sacred Art

August 17, 2007

The practice of goodness is accomplished by spontaneous spiritual joy and splendor of spiritual beauty. Truth is beautiful in itself.

Truth in words, the rational expression of the knowledge of created and uncreated reality is necessary to man who is endowed with intellect. But that truth can find other means of  expression. Above all when it is a matter of evoking what is beyond words, the depths of the heart, the exaltation of the soul, the mystery of God.

Even before revealing himself to man in words of truth, god revealed himself to man in the universal languages of creation, the work of his word, of his wisdom.

The order and harmony of the universe which both the child and the scientist discover.

From the greatness and beauty of created things comes a corresponding perception of their creator. “

For the author of beauty created them”-wisdom

13:35

.

Created in the “image of god” man also expresses the truth of his relationship with God the creator, by the beauty of his created works.

Basic Drawing

August 3, 2007

GRAPHIC LANGUAGE:

Drawings: Graphic representation of real objects formed by various combinations of lines.

  • Drawings can effectively convey ideas without the use of words – they can be a valuable way of communication.

  • In order for draing to be effective they should be understandable to those with whom you wish to communicate your idea or concept. The drawing should be achieved by careful attention to each and every detail.

  • The drawing should not be vague – it should be legible, that is, it should be achieved by careful attention to each and every detail.

  • Your drawing should be accurate, orderly and neatly completed. The drawing reflects what you wish to communicate.

Various Types of Drawings:

1.      artistic drawings

2.      technical drawings

3.      mechanical drawings

4.      aesthetic

5.      abstract

Technical drawings represent objects to be constructed.

Mechanical drawings are made with the use of instruments: T-sqares – triangle – compass – French curve or computer etc.

Drawing is a skill that can be acquired by anyone with good eyesight and eye-hand coordination.

Drawing images of our idea or perception of something is not difficult. Seeing is the problem. In artistic drawing we rely more on our creative, intuitive and imaginative resources.

This kind of drawing is akin to a method of information processing. It helps us to perceive things more clearly, awakens our eyes to more creative solutions to problem solving.

It is like a meditation/a shift in consciousness as in listening to music, typing, jogging or even driving a car .While driving a car we are aware of various special information – sensing complex components of road condition, speed, visibility and overall traffic situation.

Likewise in drawing, we are constantly evaluating the various aspects of the drawing or design.

The rhythm, balance, line, color, and shape and size are being adjusted throughout your composition. When all the elements come together, you have completed your work of art.

Drawing involves thinking and doing, trying and discarding, discovery and rejection.

Line – color – or tone – form – shape – volume are some of the main elements expressed on a two dimensional surface to create your masterpiece.

Artistic creation arises from humanity’s need for emotional expression.

Drawing usually starts with a line. But, there is no line in nature. What you we usually think of as line is in reality the division between forms. Line is of little value to the painter who must learn to see in terms of light and shadow. The tool of the painter is Value – the science of light and shadow.  Light and shade can be measured in precise values on scale from zero to ten, or from black to white.

The artist’s job is to create the illusion of a three-dimensional form on a two dimensional surface. We perceive that form mainly because of light and shadow. Most students have a little experience with drawing and their knowledge of proportions is limited. Proportions deal with measure, and measure is the best taught with line. There are two types of line, straight and curved, plus four different directions: vertical, horizontal, right, and left obliques

In drawing, it’s important to perceive the contours of a subject and variation of the contours in relation to above standards. Imagine a head tilted to one side of absolute vertical. If we are drawing a person’s head we must determine how many degrees, away from the vertical is the tilt of a person’s head. The precise tilt of a person’s head away from the absolute vertical can be found by using a vertical line next to the drawing of the head. The space between vertical and the tilt of the head is called negative space. You must learn to translate your perception into some graphic form of expression, to communicate your idea.

One Year na akong Passionist Youth!!!!

March 31, 2007

I am now one year as a member of the Passionist Youth, a religious youth organization in our local parish in connection with our passionist fathers, and their contemplative love and to preach christ crucified. I remember the time and the date I joined the group and became a very active youth : It was 4:00PM mass, first sunday of April 2006.

Now How It All Started?

It all started April 2005 - Holy Week - when the time where something comes out of my mind around Good Friday: "What if I try to watch the live Stations of the Cross?" So I come out of the house to see it. That time I never had any friends, except ONLY my classmates. I was strucked at the play. When it ended I saw the cast and crew, with their friendship and awesome bonding. I wish I had friends like them, and now I had them as friends. First, I became a member of the Legion of Mary - Junior Praesidium. A few weeks later I was recruited as an Altar Server. I have undergone training under Rev. Rogie (which is now the assistant parish priest @ Bagong Silang) for a few weeks. By January 2006, my service in the altar became regular. And by April, I have decided to join a youth organization, fullfilling my wish to gain more and more friends and to be much more active in the church. And so I decided to join the Passionist Youth since I like those Passionist fathers etc.

I Enjoy it to the Fullest!!

Now I have countless friends (about 150+ ??)scattered almost all over the country, from sacristans to seminarians to theologians to Parish Priests to Lay leaders and simple yet good friends. From my closest friends in Cul-de-sac to our former priests now based in Mindanao. I had attended several gatherings, seminars, occasions, and also parties. I have reached also a couple of parishes like in Marikina.

Now I am also the president of the Ministry of Altar Servers and also one of the most active youth in the Parish.892456534l

I LOVE YOU ALL PAYO, CHIRO, PYM & all of you!!!

I THANK GOD SO MUCH FOR HAVING YOU ALL AS A FRIEND

Something about St. Paul of the Cross

December 4, 2006

St. Paul of the Cross is the founder of the Passionists. He took the religious surname "Of the Cross" because his life’s program was to understand and proclaim the mystery of the cross and the passion of Jesus Christ.

the following are some info from wikipedia.org

When he was 26 years old, Paul of the Cross had a series of prayer-experiences which made it clear to him that God was inviting him to form a community who would live an evangelical life and promote the love of God revealed in the Passion of Jesus. In a vision, he saw himself clothed in the habit he and his companions would wear: a long, black tunic on the front of which was a heart surmounted by a white cross, and in the heart was written "the Passion of Jesus Christ". On seeing it, he heard these words spoken to him: "This is to show how pure the heart must be that bears the holy name of Jesus graven upon it". The first name Paul received for his community was "the Poor of Jesus"; later they came to be known as the Congregation of the Passion of Jesus Christ, or the Passionists.

St_paul

With the encouragement of his bishop, who clothed him in the black habit of a hermit, Paul wrote the rule of his new community (of which he was, as yet, the only member) during a retreat of forty days at the end of 1720. The community was to live a penitential life, in solitude and poverty, teaching people in the easiest possible way how to meditate on the Passion of Jesus.

His first companion was his own brother, John Baptist, who was ordained to the priesthood with Paul by Pope Benedict XIII on 7 June 1727 in St. Peter’s Basilica, Rome. After ordination they devoted themselves to preaching missions in parishes, particularly in remote country places where there were not a sufficient number of priests pastorally involved. Their preaching apostolate and the retreats they gave in seminaries and religious houses brought their mission to the attention of others and gradually the community began to grow.

During his lifetime, Paul of the Cross was best known as a popular preacher and a spiritual director. More than two thousand of his letters, most of them letters of spiritual direction, have been preserved.

**I’ve read a book about him and I knew that he really worked much harder than ordinary religious people. He became a some kind of an inspiration for me.
